Top Three Ways to Conquer Stress and Anxiety

Now that we have discussed the harsh realities of stress and anxiety, you’re probably wondering how you turn the corner for positive health. If any of the above information sounds like you, keep reading for my top three tips for how to conquer your stress and anxiety.

1. Practice Deep Breathing

This may sound too good to be true, but the simple act of focussed breathing can do wonders for the body and ultimately lower your stress levels. Several breathing techniques induce relaxation and calm your body and mind within minutes. When you breathe from your abdomen instead of your chest, you help control your nervous system, and your body starts to relax.[3]

2. Find time to do things you enjoy

In today’s fast past society, everyone is busy taking care of everyone else, which leaves little time for themselves. You’re busy with work or the kids or housework, and you forget to do things that bring YOU joy. Doing things that bring you joy will reduce your stress and anxiety. Maybe this is a hobby like painting or playing an instrument or perhaps reading a good book. Whatever it is, make time to do something for you every day when you can fit it in.

3. Aromatherapy

Are there certain scents that instantly put you in a better mood? Maybe it’s the smell of cinnamon during the fall or your favorite flower in the spring. Smelling something good can actually have a physiological effect on your mood, stress, and working capacity.[4] My personal favorite therapy for anxiety is using essential oils. Essential oils can calm the mind, reduce stress and even combat pain.[5] You can find my highly recommended essential oils for stress and anxiety here. (link to your Young living oils)

How to Incorporate Stress Breaking Techniques into Your Day

One of the most important ways to manage stress and anxiety is choosing positive thoughts and changing your thinking. You can practice positivity and gratitude daily to create small habits of changing your thought patterns. This, in return, will help lower your stress and anxiety. Other techniques to include in your daily life are practicing mindfulness through meditation, keeping a journal and writing out your thoughts, and the more common healthy habits such as eating well and getting enough exercise.

Stress will always be there, but how you respond will ultimately determine how it affects your body, mind, and spirit. Remember, your mind is powerful, and you can create a life that is not controlled by stress and anxiety.
